Today’s our fourth birthday, but sadly it will be our last.
When we opened we thought we’d last about a month! Now, four years later it’s time to draw the curtain on what has been an amazing experience.
If it were possible I’d keep the Café open forever – but it’s not possible. I’m focused on finishing my law degree as well as other internet ventures, and I don’t seem to have the spare time that I’d like to have.
We finish with a proud record and that’s a good way to finish.
Over the four years we’ve had almost 1.5 million visitors, 147,000 comments, and 1,200 posts. These are remarkable statistics. But best of all we’ve shared this experience with hundreds of amazing people, many of whom I now consider truly great friends. They all added to the experience, and they all made it worthwhile.
There are too many to thank – both as authors or commenters – so forgive me if I skip that formality. However, I would like to reserve a special thanks to Min. The Café wouldn’t have had a heartbeat without her.
The Café won’t be disappearing into the internet oblivion though; it will be kept open indefinitely as an ‘archive’ of everyone’s contribution. So yes, by all means we’ll still be here if you wish to continue adding comments on any of our existing posts, but I will not be adding any new ones.
And of course we’ll still be able to catch up with each other over at The AIMN, which has grown beyond all my expectations and where many of my friends from the Café now gather. So we’ll see you there.
Anyway, shall we finish with a song?
Well done M and M…. from little things, big things grow.
G’day All,
Sad, just sad.
Sorry to see you go, but all the best for the future. And remember – don’t let the bastards grind you down!

Such a shame. What we really need is more uninformed, rampant propaganda supporting a morally and intellectually bankrupt Left leaning political establishment. Woe is us. With no Cafe Whispers, we’re in danger of the void being taken up by objective comment, critique and review of both sides of politics which makes no excuses for anyone.
How will the ALP/Greens cope without the blind faith of its supporters spewing hate, vitriol and ignorant bile towards the centre right of politics?
May you enjoy a long, healthy and happy “retirement” in well deserved obscurity.
Felt this coming and it’s the right thing at the right time.
Thanks for the four years.
Adrian of Nowra
All the best Michael and Carol, may your future be a happy one.
Steve of Hervey bay and formally Sydney,, : ) : ) : )
I also feel a little sad… all the best to everyone else as well..
Life wont be the same without you! Golly, said that to a woman once! Hope your studies are all you want them to be. Cheers, and thank you!

How very sad. Yep gang the CARNIVAL IS OVER, but gee didn’t we have fun . All the very best for the future. Get your Law degree and run for Office. Cheers
“Get your Law degree and run for Office. ”
Yes, Patricia, because what Australian needs is more self righteous Labor Lawyers in Parliament with absolutely no connection to reality, no understanding of responsible economic management, a commitment to class warfare and a belief that everyone else should pay for your socialist folly.
Does the B stand for bullshit John, cos thats all you ever sprout. Please, go and polute one of your right wing gas bag sites and leave the common sense ones to us.
Migs, I wish you and Min well, and the very best for the future, and although I’m sad to see the Café wind down, I’m so glad that I found it, and am eternally grateful for all your support and encouragement.
But as you say, we’ll still catch up at the AIMN 😀
All the best to all Whisperers.
BTW, I have just posted my latest poem “Tony the Plumber.”
https://truthseekersmusings.wordpress.com/2014/06/06/tony-the-plumber/
Cheers 😀
So I’m self righteous now, am I?
Thank you to everybody else for your kind words. Expect some fireworks from me if the trolls like JohnB come in.
One thing I won’t miss, JohnB, is lying vile pieces of Right Wing effluvia like you. Where will you get your pay packet if you don’t have this site to troll anymore? I suspect Menzies House will be cutting some of its staff soon-& I hope you’re the first to be cut.
I have enjoyed the Cafe. Sad to see it go but onwards, onwards.
@Marcus, oh dear, poor boy. Just because Labor and Julia’s 457 McTernan man have organised scores of social media trolls to abuse and harass, doesn’t mean that the conservatives use the same dirty tactics.
Oh, StaffordHall, I am not actually a right winger. I am left of centre. However I differ from you guys in that I am a realist interested in responsible government, something we never get from the ALP.
JohnB, Marcus has been here longer than I can remember. If you think he was sent him by Labor then you really do have a problem.
Miglo and Min, thanks for a place to express our thoughts over the last few years. With the politics in this fair land o ours, it was badly needed.
It is indeed true, from little things big things grow,
This time, you are closing down because you are moving on. That is good, as it is to better things.
JohnB, which compares with the LNP who have the goal (if it gets through the Senate) of canceling the already miserly Pensioner Education Supplement..all the while bemoaning the ‘laziness’ of people with disabilities. Earn or Learn, yet all the while canceling people’s ability to do so. What a freak show this current government is!!!!
Thank you Fed up, without you being there, your constant encouragement, moral support and assistance with admin work I very much doubt that the Cafe would have lasted nearly as long as it did.
Slumdog, look around you, Murdoch is not winning. These little endeavours are growing on many sites.
\We have new outlets popping up weekly.
Sad to see Cafe Whispers end, Michael & Carol, but do realise you will be very busy with life, study & AIMN. Have enjoyed your well-thought out & sensible posts.
All the very best.
Carol, not too sure about that. Yes, Michael was lucky to have you step in, keeping things going.
Good luck on the new road, you are setting out on.
Carol, reading some of the above, has bought back to me, how hard it was to survive.
Survive you both did.
Survived and grew into bigger things.
What a bitter sweet moment. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this blog for a number of years and I’ve also enjoyed contributing to it. It was always interesting to read the comments to posts.
Congrats on running such a wonderful blog for so long 🙂
This is not good.
Toodle ooh, and thanks for the writing, it was truly excellent.
Many thanks for the intelligent and witty articles…
Will be sadly missed..

A sad but expected day. Thanks to Migs and Min for lots of laughs and good times, along with some excellent articles over the last four years.
Thanks also to joni for taking a ‘temporary’ hiatus from Blogocrats, which gave the impetus to get the Café running full steam ahead.
Thanks also to the many contributors over the years – along with the blogmaster(s) and other administrators (Fu), commenters make the site what it
iswas.A special thanks to my cellar drinking buddy, LOVO, the cleaner Tom R, and of course Michael for keeping it well stocked with quality reds, a little beer, some Mateus for Min, and Blackberry Nip for LOVO 😆 😆
All the best with your other endeavours Michael & Carol – the AIMN is going gangbusters and no doubt keeping you very busy, along with your studies.
Cheers, and thanks for all the fish 😀
Chinas Grip Tightens on Rare Earth;
The discovery of a small rare earth ore body at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean last week triggered a fleeting hope that China’s monopoly on the materials would be broken. China currently produces 97% of such metals
Unfortunately, the discovery may not have the impact many had hoped, which means prices for rare earth metals will continue to soar. That’s bad news for countries like the United States and Japan, which count on the scarce materials for high-tech industries. Developed countries require rare earths to manufacture a wide range of high-tech products, including flat-panel displays, computers, hybrid car batteries, cell phones, solar panels and some advanced weapons systems.
For instance, there are more than 50 pounds of rare earth metals under the hood of a Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE ADR: TM) Prius. Terbium can cut the electricity demand of lights by up to 80% and fractions of dysprosium can significantly reduce the weight of magnets in electric motors. But China, which produces 97% of the world’s rare earth metals, has drastically reduced its exports over the past several years, driving prices skyward.
Citing “environmental protection,” China cut its rare earth exports to just 30,259 metric tons in 2010 from 67,521 metric tons in 2005.
That has caused runaway price increases for many of the 17 metals.
Over the past year dysprosium, used in specialized magnets, shot up from $300 per kilogram to $1,900 per kilogram and even higher. Neodymium has spiked to $450 per kilogram from $45 per kilogram late last year.
The Market Vectors Rare Earth Metals ETF (NYSE: REMX) is up 7.25% year-to-date and 32% over the past 12 months, as a result.
That’s why many analysts – and Western companies – breathed a sigh of relief this week when the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that China’s strict export policies on certain raw materials such as manganese, silicon carbide and yellow phosphorus, had broken global trade rules.
Although the WTO ruling did not apply to rare earth metals, most expect China to reconsider those export policies as a result of the decision >http://www.commodityonline.com/news/russia-holds-more-rare-earth-reserves-than-china-34318-3-34319.html
What – the Cafe is closing. Is there time for one more caffeine fuelled discussion before the shutters come down?
Seriously Migs & Min, thanks for all the posts over the past four years. They have been great. Although I haven’t made many contributions here (in comparison to some) I have lurked a lot. I look forward to seeing your adventure continue over at The AIMM and someday hearing that you have graduated from law school.
All the best and as Bacchus said – thanks for all the fish.
Slumdog is still trying to bring the site down.
why?
Is it as recognition that he has failed badly in the past.
😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦 😦
Any chance the cellar doors will be thrown open?
Well cafes and other small businesses closing are a sign of the times.
Just want to add my thanks to you too Michael. Best wishes to you & Carol & will look forward seeing your comments on the AIMN.
Sad to see you go, but never the less we are all still fighting hard against this lowlife government as I sm sure you will be. Will be catching up on the Amin. I am a member of so many anti Abbott pages now it is so hard to keep up with them. So many of them appearing now. So if JohnB thinks we have nowhere to go he can think again. Best of luck to you.
John B, nasty to the end = no class !
Thank you too, Michael, for introducing us to Min, Bacchus, Mobius, Nasking, Fu, TS and so many more empathetic contributors and readers out there like jane and joni and ewe2. As well other like-minded blogsites like >the Political Sword with Ad Astra, Lyn and Talk Turkey, and more recently THE PUB with Buffalo Bill and other friends.
Nor would I myself ever have found my way into blogging, verse and satire without Miglo’s encouraging comments in those early days of 2010. You can’t imagine how impressed were my children and grandchildren when Nana’s fledgeling site at http://polliepomes.wordpress.com/ polliepomes was selected for archiving by the National Gallery of Australia with the PANDORA logo.
So if the time has really come for Cafe Whispers to lose you as its present proprietor/blogmaster, Miglo, please go knowing that you have achieved every thing and more which you set out as your goals back in 2010. Well done!
I’m crying….right at this moment……. no, really !! 😥
I might even have to suss out a red that I spied in da cellar under a pile of unopened Black Berry Nip bottles that Bacc’s never got around to not drinking……. 😮
Migs, mate…. *clink* …… Min, *Lovo genuflects in your general direction* *kiss* *kiss* …………………thanks ( and not for the fish… I f’n hate fish…. just sayin.. 🙂 )
He hee, i said it before and i’ll say it again, ya just gotta love lovo….. : )
Yep Steven – if I find myself in the Silver City with an unopened bottle of Blackberry Nip, I know who I’d like to have a beer with 😉
Perhaps he may even appreciate a nice Qld steak to go with a beer…

ananda1955 “John B, nasty to the end = no class !”
Ananda, I did not wish harm upon anyone, just health & long life and the obscurity their divisive and partisan propaganda deserves.
If you want “nasty” just check any of the many anti-Abbott “hate pages” out there.
There will be all the “no class” you could want.
Sad to see it go, but best of luck for the future Migs and Min. Thanks for the effort you have put into this site, and all the other work you are doing elsewhere. Sure we will meet again, likewise the other Whisperers, maybe over at the AIMN (which I haven’t visited too often in the past, but might ramp up my attendance now 😉 ) Till then.
JohnB would you like to try and remember who really had no class. I have not forgotten what your rotten lot did to our first female PM. Get real for gods sake. They started this nasty war and we are fighting them with everything they and you so obviously approved of. In other words we are beating them and you at your own game. No class Abbott and co will be gone very soon along with there no class cronies, Jones and Bolt. You would not know what class was even if it jumped up and bit you. Ask Julia what class is she had it in spades.
JohnB , it could be possible that Abbott deserves the media coverage is getting. Getting by the way, across the media, in this country and overseas.
I have not seen any coverage that is not factual. Maybe you can point out some unfair coverage of our Tony,
Maybe you can reply to what Tanya has said today, Her recap on Abbott’s actions while aboard. Pease tell me, where we have it wrong.
Disagreeing with Abbott, is not nastiness.
https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/President_Barack_Obama_Obama_to_Abbott_out_of_the_way/?bgGZMdb&v=40645
It appears the meetings in Washington were not confirmed, Took 24 hours to come up with that excuse.
Now that must mean that Abbott has taken off on a 12 day global tour, as Grattan described it, without confirming the people he intended to meet were available.,
That could not be possibly true, could it?
I cannot see Beasley making such mistakes,
Does not fit in with the story that came out of Washington.,
Oh, oh why is it that we have to question all they tell us, Would be lovely to take government announcements at face value.
John B..= nasty nasty poo bum…
Lady Pamela. “J.. I have not forgotten what your rotten lot did to our first female PM. …. You would not know what class was even if it jumped up and bit you. Ask Julia what class is she had it in spades.”
Ahh, “Class warfare”, the left love playing that game.
As for Gillard, well she really had no class, she changed her mode of speech to appear working class. You can be working class without having to spoik loik a bogan. Now, it may surprise you (since you neatly classify your political opponents according to your own narrow minded bigotry and prejudices) but I don’t actually like Alan Jones at all. I don’t think his comments about Gillard were in any way proper. I didn’t agree with any criticism of Gillard based on her marital and parental status, the size of any of her clothing, or the colour of her hair. There was enough to criticise Gillard on, based on her loyalty, credibility, and competence. In all those capacities she failed dismally. Such a disappointment for our first female PM.
When all else failed she played the misogyny card, the cowards way out.
Florence said “I cannot see Beasley making such mistakes,”
Did you change feet there, Florence ? Left foot out, right foot inserted in gob ?
I could suggest that Dear Kim is still working out the difference between Karl Rove and Rove McManus. Sad, really, he’s quite a decent chap but when he made that one fluff, the media jumped on him and so did the parliamentary Labor party and out he went.
What arseholes are the ALP for dumping him on a momentary lapse.
Fed up
“Maybe you can reply to what Tanya has said today,”
Well whatever Tanya said, she would say that wouldn’t she, eh ?
Plibersek is just another naysayer for the sake of saying nay, another brainless party hack who couldn’t give a toss about the future of this country.

I’M not finished yet i have but one thing more to say about you. John B = vomit.
JohnB is a pathetic individual.
thanks for everything michael. you are all class.
JohnB, “Ahh, “Class warfare”, the left love playing that game.” ….. not quite correct there, umm, Johnny B ….. in actual fact.. the (not so) Right love saying that the left are ‘playing that game’, ..THAT.., as you would well know, is projection writ large, 🙄 , umm, Johnny Be ( deleted comment )…us under classes (WTF) are a wake’n up, John-I…… the tea party is over……… the pumpkin scone’s ‘ave all been eaten…..’it’s time’….. JohnB, how come ya can’t see the nose in front of your face…………. I’m guessing that it’s the blinker’s getting in the way…… mayhap ewe, baa… need to do some research….. and the first port of call in that Endeavour would be to ‘ave a Captain Cook at your cold dead heart….. no, really. 😡

JohnB is a pathetic individual.
Yep, the last refuge of the truly pathetic, who can’t argue the issues.
The simple facts are that the self righteous screechers of the Left cannot objectively judge policy of those they hate (and it seems they truly hate).
You appear incapable of sensible discussion, as you have demonstrated, and resort to hate speech.
We see this sort of filth on the hate pages of social media. It’s “class warfare” and it is waged by the Left/ALP. No ifs, no buts, no excuses.
Piss off, idiot.
This page is in no way associated with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and contains adult themed material. Thanks for visiting. Come back soon.

John B = wanker : )
Listen up all ewe MSM/IPA/LNP worshipers, you have been judged 😛 ………and by our very own Judge Judy no less 😀 😀
One of the mob, not Nigel no-friends.
Was Tanya correct when she said, world leaders do not appreciate new comers that trash those who went before them on the world stage. One thing for sure, photos we have seen, seem to show the Chancellor among others shunning our illustrious Tony
It appeared that our PM was put rudely in his place. To hover on the outskirts at these celebrations. Even the plane load of media sent two days before did not seem to have rescued him.
Compare that with this Florence 😉
Bacchus, the present one is even better, with Abbott looking for his name from the centre. finding it far out on the right, nearly out of the picture. I do not believe the man was welcomed.
There are conventions that are important, that one ignores at their own peril. Abbott broke such conventions. One does not rubbished their own country overseas.
Abbott has done that. As Opposition leader and PM.
He is paying the price.
Abbott as a young man, I believe travelled South Africa supporting Apartheid. Still has the gall to turn up at Mandela’s funeral.
Yes, none of this mob speak for me. One can only hope there are some on the back bench, that might. I call on them to stand up and show themselves Yes, they cannot all be in Abbott’s camp. That I refuse to believe, even of this Liberal party.
Here’s Tony finding his place in world affairs…..but hey, shit happens 😆
LOVO, I hope this reaches you, I’ve been reminiscing and re-linking to old favorites at “Cafe Whispers/How…” to particularly through your comments.
I’ve been moved again by Julia’s Christmas message in 2012 after roaring with laughter over the Fuhrer learning about Abbott’s election.
All much more engaging than the current political scene?
Cheers, Patricia

LOVO, it just keeps on giving. He will rue the day, he criticised Julia on the world stage.

Thanks for the ride folks, sorry to see this end, best wishes for your future endeavors, may see you over at AIMN.
I’m not an economist, but I can understand this. =
Other than a few vague statements, Treasurer Joe Hockey has not told us why the RBA needs billions in taxpayer funds.
The Treasurer and the governor of the Reserve Bank owe taxpayers a detailed explanation of exactly why the bank is getting a cheque for nearly $9 billion, a decision that will blow out this year’s budget deficit to $40 billion. Serious question remains unanswered about the government’s decision to give the RBA such a massive amount, in one hit, to top up its Reserve Fund.

USA Federal court judge in his ruling against the banks1985. ”Only God could create something of value out of nothing”. . There is no budget crisis,, we can’t owe something that didn’t exist in the first place.
While this is a surprise in one way, I was expecting it in another. The number of posts were dwindling and even myself has much less time to devote to comments and stories. While I have had so much anger build up inside me since the budget, finding time to pen a comment has been sadly lacking. Migs and Min I totally understand, as you have more than one website and a life as well. So here’s to your future. Thanks for the ride and the ability to become an author here as well. To all who have read or commented I wish you every success and this goes for those who support either side of politics. However I just wish that we could return to some form of bipartisan and respect like it used to be. Sadly it seems this will never be the case again, as Big Business has taken control through divide and conquer over the last number of years. Best wishes to all and I will now have to move to AIMN to balance the crap from the mainstream media.

Slumdog apparently plagiarises an article from Crikey (written by two noted LNP haters) and asks “Other than a few vague statements, Treasurer Joe Hockey has not told us why the RBA needs billions in taxpayer funds.
The Treasurer and the governor of the Reserve Bank owe taxpayers a detailed explanation of exactly why the bank is getting a cheque for nearly $9 billion, a decision that will blow out this year’s budget deficit to $40 billion. Serious question remains unanswered about the government’s decision to give the RBA such a massive amount, in one hit, to top up its Reserve Fund.”
The most basic of googling will answer your “question”.
(Australian Financial Review 23 Oct 2013)
“Treasurer Joe Hockey’s unprecedented $8.8 billion capital injection into a Reserve Bank of Australia buffer fund, aims to sandbag the economy against a repeat of the US debt crisis.
Mr Hockey, who returned from Washington last week vowing to load up “both barrels”, said the Reserve Bank cash grant was needed because “we need all the ammunition in the guns for what’s before us”.
The planned capital injection, foreshadowed by The Australian Financial Review in April and requested by the Reserve Bank board in recent weeks, increases a crucial central bank reserve fund to a record $11.3 billion.
The move significantly raises the budget challenge facing Mr Hockey by likely blowing out the federal deficit this financial year to at least $40 billion from last year’s $18.8 billion.
Mr Hockey indicated that restoring the Reserve Bank’s buffer, which is used to absorb losses on its $89 billion balance sheet, is motivated by concerns about the threat of another global financial crisis, triggered by the US.”
(The Australian 23 October 2013)
” budget deficit is heading towards $40 billion this year in the wake of a decision by Joe Hockey to bolster the funding of the Reserve Bank.
The Treasurer has granted the bank $8.8 billion to lift its reserves which had been run down by foreign exchange losses and high dividend payments.
“This injection of funds puts beyond any doubt the Reserve Bank’s continued ability to perform its core monetary policy and foreign exchange functions, in an environment of heightened financial market volatility,” Mr Hockey said.
The rise in the value of the Australian dollar has inflicted heavy losses on the Reserve Bank, which is required to hold sufficient foreign exchange reserves to manage any extreme movements in the currency market.
Losses peaked at $5.8 billion in 2011-12, leading governor Glenn Stevens to call for dividend payments to the government to be suspended until reserves had been rebuilt, however former Treasurer Wayne Swan demanded an additional $500 million from the bank last year in his ultimately fruitless effort to deliver a budget surplus. Dividend payments had peaked at $5.2bn in 2009-10.
Mr Hockey said this had left the bank’s reserve fund at just 3.8 per cent of its funds at risk, down from a level of 11 per cent in 2007-8.”
(ABC online 23 October)
“The Federal Government has given the Reserve Bank of Australia a $8.8 billion one-off grant to help it manage future economic crises.
The money will be added to a fund used to offset the central bank’s exposure to risky financial assets.
Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey says Australia’s economy continues to grow, but financial instability in the United States presents serious risks for global growth.
He says there is a looming threat of another debt-ceiling stand off in the United States.
“[The] United States has not resolved its structural issues,” he said.
“They’ve kicked the can along the road, closer to the mid-term elections. I don’t see a way forward out of that.
“And we’re not going to allow Australia to become in anyway as vulnerable as the United States and other jurisdictions may be over the month and year ahead.””
I’m not an economist, but sounds pretty straightforward to me.
Of course the wantonly blind and ignorant Labor trolls will simply ignore the facts and spin to suit themselves.
I’m not an economist. well we all know what you are. sounds pretty straightforward to us.
Ananda, I merely pasted information provided by one right leaning and two left leaning media outlets. It explains the situation, exactly the question asked by the Crikey trolls and Slumdog.
It was not my opinion, not my answer, but that from sources with a variety of opinions and agenda.
To ignore and dismiss would be indicative of fuckwittedness.
Something apparently not in short supply here.
Misery Guts (aka JohnB) said, “blah, blah, blah, blah.” And no-one gave a dead rat’s bottom!
How many times have you been told to “Get a life” JohnB?
btw JohnB – this shit was discredited more than a month ago, but arsehats like you are still repeating the lies hoping to suck in the gullible like yourself.
That “fuckwittedness” you’re so fond of? It’s called projection 😉
I love it when you’re in form, Bacchus.
John Bullshit, why don’t you just disappear back up into your stinking bowel. I’m sure you would feel at home there. Fuckwit !
Bacchus & ananda, you are being to kind to Misery Guts, Fuckwit (aka John B) you got to be more forceful, he’s extremely thick headed.

So you scored badly, eh. Just as I expected.
Some that visit seem to be only able to justified their stance by reaching the belief that all here is stupid. Wonderful way to mount a argument.
love the way some talk to themselves, then answer.
John bitch, why would i want to play a stupid game from you, i repeat fuck off. you pathetic arse wipe.
Ananda1955, Dont hold back mate, say what you really feel 😉
BTW, love your work 😀 and when you’re right you’re right 😯
Cheers 😀
IQ = 127 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have shown you mine JohnB….. now be dinkom and show yours….. no cheating now, JB 🙄 ( which is a silly thing to say to an RWinger 😛 )
Put up or f*ck up
LOVO, he’ll be lucky the score 50. If he does, then he obviously cheated.
Lovo, at least you were game. I got 130 on that test.
I got 140, but that’s meaningless. JohnB is still a right-whinge misery guts, LOVO is still one of the most clever and amusing posters on this redundant site, intelligent people can see straight through the ideological direction of this, the worst government in Australian history, and NoS is a genius compared to JohnB 😆
Bacchus, Bacchus, Bacchus. Have you done those “political” spectrum tests, you know, sticks you in a quadrant which defines you as socially and economically conservative or “progressive” (I hate that self serving expression).
Anyway, I consistently come up as left of centre on economic and social policy issues.
The difference is, of course, that I place greater emphasis on competence and reliability than ideology.
That’s why I can never vote for the corrupt incompetent fuckwits of the Australian Labor Party.
I may not agree with all of the Libs policies, at least I know that they’ll leave the economy in better shape than Labor.
It costs me personally more, under a Liberal government, it costs the country more under Labor.
But hey, go on voting for your own greedy self interest, matey!
That’s only because NoS has a better understanding of economics (ie. none) than you 😉 Perhaps you need to read a little more widely – find out that “gold standard” economics came to an end in 1971 “matey” 🙄
“It costs me personally more, under a Liberal government, it costs the country more under Labor.”
“Matey”, it personally costs everyone more under a Lieberal government, except maybe the super rich. Have a look at private sector debt between 1996 & 2007. Remember that debt truck – that was all about private sector debt – and it ballooned under a Lieberal government.
Tony and Co. are aiming us directly in that same direction again – a macroeconomic identity – given a stable current account, you can only run a public sector surplus if tbe private sector is running a deficit. I hope you don’t have children, because this mob aims to load them up with enormous debt…
Bacchus, the people who influence the economy are either petrified sheep (professional sharemarket traders), Crooks (speculators, derivatives traders, George Soros), wide eyed idiots well out of their depth (Wayne Swan), arrogant turds who think they’re in control (Paul Keating) or well intentioned ingenues (Joe Hockey).
Fact is that some basics still apply, don’t spend more than you earn.
Labor haven’t worked out that simple fact, neither have the idiots of the left who think we can keep on spending because we haven’t destroyed our economy as much as Greece.
The Libs are trying to fix the mess up. People don’t want the “pain” but know it’s necessary and know once the mess is fixed then they’ll vote in Labor for a cash splash.
It’s all about GREED and that’s what drives Labor. Greed for money, greed for power, greed for ideological victory.
Governments don’t “earn” at all JohnB. You’re making the mistake of assuming governments have to tax before they can spend. They don’t. Government is not capital constrained – it is resource constrained. As long as the economy has underutilised resources, government should be spending to support “full” utilisation of resources.
To put it into terms right-whingers like you may understand (yes I read your misguided self-analysis earlier), as long as the government is paying people not to work, as long as we have unemployment levels > about 2%, we’re wasting resources.
This crazy ideological government is driving up waste and inefficiency, not “fixing” anything! What they’re doing to this country begins with a ‘f’, but doesn’t end with ‘ixing’… 😉
In simple terms, your economic paradigm died in 1971. Isn’t it time you found out how macroeconomics works in the 21st century?
Greed for money, Greed for power. Hmmmm… does rinehart or murdoch ring a bell ? i said it before and i’ll say it again. John Bitch… fuck off. thanks Truth Seeker : ) : )
So it costs the individual more for less under the Coalition., Must say that makes sense. pray tell me how is the country better off.
It’s all very sensible. Intelligence is collective and (re)distributed. There are no individuals per se.
Even Coalitions know this at some level.
Costing the individual more for less is costing us all more for less. God helps those who help themselves and each other. The country is better off with lifters not austerical leaners.

Funny, I don’t like either of them. Rinehart is greedy and is the dysfunctional head of a dysfunctional family. Murdoch is aching for more power and influence.
Remember, he got his power in Australia thanks to Paul Keating and Bob Hawke changing the media ownership laws back in the late 1980s.
Oh, and ananda, you can name all the greedy bastards of the corporate world you like. Most of them I do not trust and do not support.
But you’re still a moronic fuckwit.

Feel free to explain?
Full communism (the government owns the means of production) ?
Some other form of taxation ?
Magic fairies planting money trees.
Feel free to explain, there are plenty of kooky ideas out there, I haven’t got the time nor inclination to “learn” all of them.
@ananda, no, not under my skin. I delight in your persistent ignorant responses which simply go to prove my point about the intellectual bankruptcy of many (not all) on the Left.
No the government does not own the means of production. Nor does capital. It is owned by all. Labour contributes as much towards productivity, as does capital.
One could say, governments are there to ensure the pie is distributed fairly.
Yes, those at the bottom, are just as important as those at the top.
Nothing to do with communism, just fairness.
“Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.
Abe L. “
LOVO, agree.
I also agree.
abbott looks like if he could kill him now and get away with it he would .Lovo as usual you hit the nail on the head……
You probably need to start at the very beginning JohnB. Try Prof Mitchell’s introduction to macroeconomics and see how you progress from there 😉
http://bilbo.economicoutlook.net/blog/?p=19782
Indeed, Lovo, Mr Lincoln’s comments do make sense, but not all Labour is of equal value. The work of a medical scientist is worth more than the bricklayer. The work of the hospital cleaner is worth more than that of the union official using the cleaners union fees to fund his tilt at parliament or prostitutes or both.
Bacchus, if you can’t explain your economic magic then just admit you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Simple minds demand simple answers to complex ideas. You can’t get a much more simple mind than that of JohnB. 🙄
Do yourself a favour JohnB – read Bill Mitchell. I wonder do you have the capacity to take on board ideas foreign to non-thinkers? I very much doubt it…

JohnB. I am curious to know, why one would keep posting on a site, when one knows all disagree with one.
Oh diddums, I’m the only one not allowed to use the “F” word here because I’m on the “wrong” side of politics.
Florence, I only keep posting here as a community service obligation to try to extend a little commonsense and reason into some otherwise tediously dull and self righteous lives.
We all know that the left LOVE to shut down debate and censor dissenting opinion (witness above). Not only that, you appear to love to self-reinforce your own twisted opinions by failing to engage outside your own sphere of self righteousness.
By all means mention Alan Jones and the other idiotic right wing shock jocks. I don’t listen to any of them, don’t condone their views, don’t agree with their opinions.
I’m doing you a favour, being here, and at the same time I am entertained by the most ridiculous examples of persistent stupidity by one or two of the commenters here.
It’s the little reward I get for my good nature.
What a boring life, you must have.
John B your a troll pure and simple and a nasty one. you know it and we know it so just admit it to yourself and move on……
@Florence, if I am so boring then why are you insistent on responding with your mindless, pointless drivel?
@Ananda, I am providing alternative opinion and facts to rebut the mainly ignorant rubbish spouted here. The trolling attributes are ably demonstrated by people like you, empty postings and unprovoked abuse.
well nobody cares about your opinion except yourself.
Yep, Ananda, nobody cares, which is why you lot try to shout me down, but can’t logically rebut.
It’s a very sad characteristic of the self righteous Left. You don’t agree with dissenting opinion therefore you attempt to ban it or attack those who speak out, rather than use evidence and logic to challenge.

John you miss the point, few are interested in what you are saying. This is the only thing we are pointing out. What amazes me. we always get to this point with people of your ilk, personal abuse.
As for my English, we cannot all be as clever as you. Know something else, it does not bother me much.
What are you going to do, when people stop coming to the clo9sed down Café Whispers. I suspect that you might find it difficult to find a site that tolerate your ruddiness, as you seem to have little to offer to any post.
PS. another point you miss, no one is arguing with you,. You are entitled to your views. We are just saying what we think of them.
I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a site to follow on from Café Whispers for those who still want a place to “meet” socially – not a replacement for the Café, just an extension for those Whisperers who still wish to hang out. Maybe Whispers’ Cellar.
Is anyone (who matters) interested in such a place – should I bother?

“you can yawn all you want, but we (and you ) all know your the liar and a hypocrite, and a nasty piece of work as well….”
that should read “you can yawn all you want, but we (and you ) all know *YOU’RE* the liar….”
Now, enough of the English lesson.
Please point out examples of my hypocrisy (and none of this made up crap about me being either a squillionaire, a Rupert employee or any of the other pathetic fallback arguments you may be tempted to use).
Please point out exactly the evidence for me being a “nasty piece of work” as well, again, none of the fabricated* “evidence” so beloved of the Left.
(* fabricated evidence, have you seen the fake Liberal campaign poster with the “black sheep” being kicked out of the flock. Utterly racist and utterly fabricated to taint the Libs.)
Thanks for the English lesson, but who needs an English lesson when my last day of schooling was in 1970. Now you want me to do some things for you ? Hmmmm? OK, Bring your neck over here and let me strangle it! The world would be a much nicer place with you gone forever…
Bacchus, I love the new site. It is fast moving and on the spot. Saying that, I have given it thought, and I do not believe there is room on that site, for what you are proposing. ;so, I believe Michael will be flat out, keeping p with the work required now,
I would also like to see something replace tho Café. Something, where one can play.
Something like a sandpit, or as you say, like a cellar bar. Somewhere ocean let off steam, among friends.
Bacchus, if you do go a head, maybe it you could have a room that one can hive off some of the pests that insist on visiting., Somewhere hey can scream to their heart content, not imposing on others
………………………………..
John, you allowing yourself to appear ridiculous. Arguing with oneself is a worry,.
Flo, my dear, I have no need to “argue with myself”. I merely post a little nugget of wisdom and the dirty troll Ananda is out there threatening violence, “Bring your neck over here and let me strangle it! The world would be a much nicer place with you gone forever…”
There’s no place for that sort of behaviour here, but apparently there is on the rebel front lines in Iraq. It seems Ananda is more suited to ISIL than Australia.
Funny what his attitude says about the Left in Australia, you do support his comments, don’t you ?
He hee, grow a spine john b, oh yes and a brain, but most of all, grow a heart… you’re nothing but a provocative piece of scum ! Now is that English good enough for you ?
See, Ananda, you’re learning already. Glad to have made a difference, you’re welcome.
Now, back to that pesky little challenge I set you, evidence to back up your accusations of hypocrisy, scum, and being a “nasty piece of work”.
Got any evidence, or are you just mouthing the usual cowardly accusations flung with regular abandon by the Left.
yes jonny boy i’m just a nasty leftie, so why bother.now shove your useless challenge in your arse, the same place where you keep your brain and your morals…
Still failing to come up with any evidence I see, Ananda.
I don’t see you as a “nasty leftie” so much as a rather stupid one.
There are plenty of thoughtful, intelligent lefties who are prepared to argue their case objectively.
They all seem to have avoided the Cafe Whispers page, for some reason.
you don’t suppose your are the reason do you.? still want the last word ? yes, that’s why you won’t go away.. even a stupid leftie’ as you like to call me, is so much more honest and honerable than than a greedy selfish lowlife right wing nut job like you.. and always will be..
I have just read about a study of right wing nut jobs which says they are less intelligent then caring and sharing people of the left. Seem they feel safer with their bigoted views…
John, you seem to have missed the fact, this site is finish. All have moved onto AIM, in thousands I believe.

“I have just read about a study of right wing nut jobs which says they are less intelligent then caring and sharing people of the left. Seem they feel safer with their bigoted views…”
Have you a link to that article, I’d be interested to read it.
I agree, right wing nutjobs are not particularly clever, neither are left wing nutjobs like yourself.
I am in the centre, slightly left of centre on economic and social issues, but I don’t vote for the centre left party because it is full of economic illiterates, corrupted union lawyers and political nutjobs.
Florence says this page is all over, Bacchus wants to keep it going.
I might have a look at the turgid agitprop page, AIMN, but there’s so much self congratulatory circle jerk left wing hate sites around these days, I don’t know how much boredom and self indulgent left wing tripe I can take !
John, I have some wonderful news for you. I have been told, there are some right wing sites around. Now I believe if you look hard enough, you will find them.
You do know, these sites are not compulsory. One does not have to visit.
Whispers’ Cellar, mm.. sounds interesting Bacc’s. I only have one or two Q’s… 1/ Will it be BYO (as per the Cafe) 😀
2/ Will you be transfering those damned unopened Blackberry Nip bottles from one cellar to the other (so we have something not to drink) 😉
John B, seeing as you said that your a tad lefty in some area’s, mayhap you could have a bit of ‘fun’ here ➡ http://austeaparty.com.au/web/blog/
Florence, right wing sites are not to my interest, they are just as bad and ignorant as the lefty sites.
Lovo, thanks for the link, but no thanks. I abhor the US nutjob Tea Party types and the unimaginative idiots who started the Australian version are almost as stupid.
What I find more interesting are the self styled “Independent” and “objective” media blogs and outlets which have a pretence of being unaffected by the biases the evil MSM have. These self-styled independent outlets are invariably just filthy little propaganda sites.
Now, I’d prefer these liars to just fess up and admit their bias (even the “Tea Party” site make their allegiances clear) however I find the arrogance of a propaganda site claiming to be independent to be a breach of the most basic test of integrity.
It does not surprise that someone like “JohnB” does not understand the meaning if the word “independent” as used in reference to blogs.
To spell it out s l o w l y for him, blogs by Bolt, Blair, Pies Ackerman are OWNED by a media company – Ltd News. These blogs are DEPENDENT on Ltd News for their very being! Blogs like the Café, the AIMN, TPS etc. are owned and operated independently of any corporate control.
independent
adjective
free from outside control; not subject to another’s authority.
As far as being objective or biased goes, the “About Us” for the Café says:
“Since its beginning in June 2010 Café Whispers has evolved into a ‘light’ political blog with a definite lean to the left. …”
Perhaps “JohnB” might like to peruse the non-independent blogs mentioned earlier – Bolt, Blair, Ackerman – and point out where they note their bias. Pies even has the temerity to call himself “one of the nation’s most respected journalists.”
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/…/right-wingers-intelligent-leftwingers
well that didn’t work, try google instead.
yep. works on google
Bacchus, they slag off the MSM for bias and propaganda, and counter it with their own bias propaganda to an even worse extent.
Even News Ltd and Fairfax has some “straight news” without a political slant.
Try and find any of that on the “Independent Australia” site.
They use “independent” to imply independence of self interest. They lie.
A dictionary definition is misleading, just like some leftists style themselves as “Progressives”, yet they hark back to the dark old days of totalitarian communism.
Three posts, Ananda. Have you figured out Irony yet ?
“They use “independent” to imply independence of self interest.”
No, that’s just the meaning you choose to take, quite simply due to your own bias. Cognitive dissonance – it’s only what you want to believe, certainly nothing approaching reality. Once again, why am I not surprised? 😉
Bacchus, “Independent” and “Progressive” are basically bywords which mean that all you’ll get is unreconstructed Leftist propaganda and hate-speech.
The meaning of those words have been corrupted by the Left.
To be accurate, they should call their “media” outlets “Uncompromising Leftist Opinion sites”.
I’d at least have some respect for their honesty and opinions then.
John, when have these sites been called anything else, but proudly left-wing. Why would one expect to find any other opinion here.
It is you, that has problems, not us.
From what you write, you appear to have no beliefs. Full stop. Just interested in being Oppositional.

Liberal Party calling for donations, so they can advertise the importanvce of scraqpping the tax.
“We need your support to make sure Australians know what’s at stake – and how we’re fighting to bring immediate relief to families and small business by removing the Carbon Tax.”
From a letter they sent pout today.
‘It’s time the Carbon Tax was scrapped.
The job-destroying Carbon Tax is a $9 billion hit on our economy this year alone.
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister reintroduced the Bill to repeal the Carbon Tax. It goes to the Senate in the coming weeks.

I should imagine they are busy working and paying taxes so that the freeloaders have a social security income to allow them to protest against the capitalism which funds their benefits.
Why have the Liberals got a begging letter out, for urgent funds, to launch an advertising blitz, to tell the people what they have done.
I thought the taxes were hated. Why they voted for this toxic PM. Obviously they are not interested.

I called you “Flo” because it is short for “Florence”, a rather old fashioned name, to be honest, but I won’t hold that against you.
So I’m old and a “smarty pants” for using the name “Flo” ?
You’re really grasping at straws, aren’t you?
I think you really must be young and very stupid to be going on like that.
John, curious, why should I be desperate. If you follow what I have written over the years. you would know my age.
Some consider it bad manners, to use a name, different from the one they put up.
I have not answered to Flo for many long decades. My name is Florence, and that is what I expect.
Now, I expect to see nothing else, but Flo. Little things amuse little brains.
Sorry, no desperation but I must admit, a little curiosity, as to why one spend so much time, putting up nasty comments, with little meaning. Mist fill some need, that you have. Cannot think what.
Florence, my dear, I don’t put up “nasty comments”, I put up challenges to the misinformation, defamation and hate speech.
I am then met with nasty comments.
Sorry to disillusion you, None of your comments are seen as challenges, as they amount to little more than nasty comments.
By the way, you are not, and what’s more will ever be my dear. Sexism and patronising , also does not work with me. Over a lifetime, I have dealt with, and sent on their way., experts in this field.
Maybe you should give us an example of one of your challenging comments. Seem to have missed my attention.
Bacchius, would like to continue, as I did with Michael and Carol, if that is OK., Willing to put up post now and then.
Florence, let me assure you, I was not being sexist, I was being patronising and dismissive, nothing more than you deserve.
Go and read my first 6 comments. Most addressed issues and challenged the worth of this page.
It did not attack any individual personally, but I was subject to a barrage of personal abuse in response.
I am quite familiar with that, it’s a common response from the talentless hypocrites of the Left when they are unable to engage in proper debate.
“would like to continue, as I did with Michael and Carol, if that is OK., Willing to put up post now and then.”
Thanks Florence – I’m glad you offered. I was thinking of sending you an email asking if you’d be interested in helping with admin and occasional post. When the time comes, I’ll send an invitation to become an admin on the new site. Much appreciated 🙂
Thanks for that. I am more comfortable on this site., AIM’s standard is too high for me. This one suits me better,
John, please go and have a nap. You are getting boring. Not interested in reading any of your comments. None that I have read, are worth replying to.
It appears we have two boats arriving. It appears that Abbott was booed today at football.
Why was that conference cut short? Cut short by many hours?
It seems Pyne and Brandis had a public row. Now that is interesting.
Will JohnB be an author?
Florence “John, please go and have a nap. You are getting boring. Not interested in reading any of your comments. None that I have read, are worth replying to.”
Thanks Flo, dear. I’ve had a good night’s sleep.
If you are unable to challenge the points I raise, then feel free to ignore my posts.
I won’t be heartbroken, I can assure you.
“Will JohnB be an author?”
I think I would prefer something that will be read Michael
What points., Can someone point out to ne, what the points are, that I am missing.
Bacchus, judging by the abuse, I am the most read author here!
Sorry, where have I been abusive. Just pointing out, I cannot make much sense of what you say. That is not abuse.
As being the most read here. Did you notice, the site has been closed down, Yes, in the process of becoming something else, but still a work in progress.
Still I must admit, I am having a little fun at your expense, not that you seem to care, or maybe not noticed..
Florence, your selective blindness is worrying. Go back and read, you dill.
No selective blindness. Just not interest in reading what you write, All I have seen, is you having a go at me, and all others that post on this site. How could that possibly be of interest to anyone. What should be bigger worry to you is the inability to see or comprehend what others write.
Florence, general and language comprehension is a genetic failing of the rabid right, I’ve yet to meet one that doesn’t suffer from it! 😯
As well a comprehension though, they also lack vision, the ability to think creatively (other than for accounting purposes, spin and lying), a moral compass and a sense of humour! 😦
They are talentless, ignorant, stupid, short sighted, mean spirited, nasty and incredibly boring; and those are their good points 😉
Cheers 😀
Very accurate assessment there TS 😉
Bacchus, yes mate, they really are a sad lot 😦
The moral superiority of the Left. Unbelievable!
Florence, clearly I am giving you the shits and since you are incapable of objective commentary, it’s about all you’re good for.
You’re a rather boring lot, can’t argue your points objectively and when your self interest is challenged, abuse is your only weapon.
Ha ha ha………
My commentary in this case has been very objective. Aimed at your contributions to this site, which amount to zilch.
No, you are far too insignificant to give me the shits. In fact little does these days.

“No, you are far too insignificant to give me the shits. In fact little does these days.”
Vivalax, Dulcolax or anything recommended by a pharmacist might assist.
Since you’ve admitted very little gives you the shits, you must really be full of it by now.
*sigh*
LOVO, one must be kind I suppose. It takes all kinds to make up this world.
“Pity this Busy Monster…Manunkind”,…… has been one of MY fav sayings over the yars, …. and I have kept on having to say it over the years, because over the years I keep coming across …. JohnB’s ….. ‘nough said
