A short history lesson for the LOTO

Here’s a short history lesson for the leader of the Opposition . . .

On the 25th of April 1915 the ANZACS landed at Gallipoli.  It was a campaign that we did not win, but it is the date we commemorate all those who have served in our armed forces; those mates who fought for their country, many of whom never returned.

Thank goodness Tony Abbott was not Prime Minister in 1915.   How many more thousands of young men would have died while he waited to call them home, UNTIL THEY HAD A WIN UNDER THEIR BELT.

Winning is not everything, you can not win a war at any cost, for what is lost is more valuable that what was gained.  History has recorded that our decision not to win at all costs was our best decision of the campaign.

The most successful operation of the campaign was the evacuation of the troops on 19–20 December under cover of a comprehensive deception operation.  As a result, the Turks were unable to inflict more than a very few casualties on the retreating forces.  The whole Gallipoli operation, however, cost 26,111 Australian casualties, including 8,141 deaths.  Despite this, it has been said that Gallipoli had no influence on the course of the war.

How many young lives ,would Tony Abbott be prepared to be lost from our nation, while we try to secure a win under the belt?

How much psychological damages to young brains, physical damage to young bodies . . ?  To our country’s spirit?

AND . . . if it was ANY ONE OF HIS DAUGHTER’S LIVES ON THE LINE, how different would he see the situation?

Tony Abbott, the AFGHANISTAN CAMPAIGN is NOT a sporting event . . . the lives lost to all mean more to many people than POINT SCORING.

You’re an unfit person to hold the position you do, when you consider a WIN UNDER THE BELT more relevant than the lives of Australians.

But to you, winning is everything, isn’t it?  Whatever the cost.  As long as someone else does the fighting . . . your dirty work.

A big thank you to JooR for the above post.

  1. Absolutely Shit Happens.. but rarely to the children of those who send others into battle….
The Bush Girls could have served, but they didn’t… and Tony Abbott’s daughters could have also joined up and tried to secure that Win Under The Belt For Dear Old Dad.

  2. I suppose Australia should have stayed in Vietnam. Another “all the way” war the Coalition got Australia involved in, a war we should have had a win in.

  3. I despise the way that he is implying our troops would have failed if they don’t achieve the unachievable… His words will torment those who have tried their best, who have done some wonderful work, He is a most horrid man.

he has no empathy, remember the way he fidgeted about at one of the fallen soldier’s funerals.. he could not stand respectfully still….

  4. Here is the quote

“Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said the coalition provided bipartisan support to the government on the Afghanistan mission.

“We want to let the Australian fighting personnel in Afghanistan know that we’re right behind them and we want them to leave Afghanistan when the job is done,” he told reporters.
“We want them to leave that country with a win under their belt.”

I did not see on the ABC this “Tony Abbott says” quote.

  5. I felt a shiver down my spine when I heard him saying that….

like our sons and daughters are simply pawns in a game of Chess……………………

  6. JooR

And if you didn’t hear it on the tele, well you just won’t read about it.
I’m sure Credlin and the other minders were all over the press trying to stop that one.

“we want them to leave Afghanistan when the job is done,” he told reporters.
“We want them to leave that country with a win under their belt”

Good rally cry if you are the footy, cricket or davis cup tennis coach, a future PM, no thanks.

  7. So by sheer accident… I was *fortunate* enough to hear it all this evening… SOMEBODY at the ABC goofed and let it play fully…..

  8. “….clean up on isle 5”

the best thing the Liberal Party has got going for them is their media clean up team. I never cease to be impressed by just how quickly they swing into action and have Abbott’s stuff ups removed from online, on air and newspapers. They even go through Youtube making spurious threats about copyright.

If they can’t get it quickly removed the spin team creates a “cue” phrase or slogan to make light of the remark e.g. Hockey’s remarks about Abbott lying:
    “Now how honest is that”

It is just a shame they don’t put as much effort into developing good policies, but then Abbott reckons policy is bullshit.

Wake up voters this guy is toxic (to borrow on of their most used words) look behind the mask this guy is really scary.

Spot on. I marvel at this myself.
Another example of the Andrew Elder remark I never tire of quoting; “the sheer indulgence required to keep Abbott at the top of Australian politics is one of the most interesting aspects of the current political scene”. That’s a pretty accurate quote.
Your mention of youtube, I think various online sites are in line for mopping up operations should we be cursed with an Abbott government. It makes sense anyway, his backers want total media control for a variey of self serving reasons.

  10. He said it on Insiders, Bob. There’s a link to the script in the post. You can find it by clicking on POINT SCORING.

But maybe he’s kicked another own goal for those who’ve worked out he’s a turd.

  11. The man just makes things up as he goes along. No logic. No strategy. Just put the boxing gloves on and throw punches in any direction. As long as he collects someone on the chin his ego is massaged.

  12. The Man is dangerous… In my opinion.. he suffers from a severe personality disorder… which perhaps should muster some empathy for him….. but is hard to do considering what is at stake

  13. I suppose Australia should have stayed in Vietnam. Another “all the way” war the Coalition got Australia involved in, a war we should have had a win in.

And another war we went into on a lie, Sue. Menzies lied to the Parliament when he claimed that South Vietnam had begged Australia to enter the war.

Old habits like lying to the Parliament to involve us in illegal invasions die very hard in the Liars Party.

Wake up voters this guy is toxic,

tawdry and sleazy, lunalava. Another couple of their favourites.

JooR @12.57pm, you give him too much credit. He can’t possibly suffer from a severe personality disorder;he doesn’t have one.

He is a void, imo and he just keeps chucking stuff into it in the hope that it will fill up with something akin to personality. Epic fail, Liealot.

  14. JooR and In my opinion.. he suffers from a severe personality disorder…

I have met only a few people in my life who I could say that I dislike intensely, and Abbott is one of them. He has no conscience and will do and say whatever in order to gain power for himself. With this type of personality disorder he is under control when he has others ahead of himself in the pecking order, but make him leader and his delusions take control..

  15. In my opinion.. he suffers from a severe personality disorder…

He doesn’t have a personality. He only has moods.

    Bad ones.

  16. “The man just makes things up as he goes along. No logic. No strategy. Just put the boxing gloves on and throw punches in any direction. As long as he collects someone on the chin his ego is massaged.”

I believe that is how he was as a boxer in his earlier days. All slogging and no skill. Nothing has changed much.

  17. hey what can I say.. I try to be kind.. 😉
but yes.. you’re all correct.. he has no personality

  18. I am positive that I once read an article in which it was claimed that he cheated in the Boxing match that he won a university title in.. but standing on his opponent’s toes.. but I have never been able to find it since.

  19. Migs,
    Good post.

Tony Abbott likes to act like one of the boys…but I reckon his aggressive, impetuous, bullying approach would put plenty of young lads and women overseas at risk…like Bush did.

You need a more softly softly approach.

I like the fact Julia Gillard isn’t all gung-ho.

Gung-ho got us into that Iraq mess.
