A warning before I start, there are images in this post which may upset some, so proceed with caution…
I was forwarded an email by a friend recently that I wanted to share, I have changed some of the wording, but you will get the gist…. after all a picture tells a thousand words.
Some of you may have seen the Academy Award Winning documentary “The Cove” for those of you who haven’t, here’s a link to the preview.
There are also many who would assume that this slaughter of whales and dolphins is only performed by the Japanese… You would be wrong.
The following images are from the Faroe Islands, which are a part of Denmark. Yes that’s right Denmark, a Western Country.
The sea is stained in red and it is not because of climate effects or nature. It’s because of the cruelty of the human beings (civilised human) who kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins.
This happens every year in The Feroe Island in Denmark. In this slaughter the main participants are young teens. Why? You may well ask It is a celebration, to show that they are adults and mature!
Although the dolphins aren’t celebrating, and neither should we.
In this big celebration, nobody misses out on the fun. Everyone gets to participate in one way or the other, either killing or cheering on the cruelty from the shore like a fan at a footy match.
At this point I feel it is necessary to mention that the Calderon Dolphins, are near extinction and they get near men to play and interact. It is their way of showing and offering their friendship
Alas, these poor creatures don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hooks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim cry like that of a new born child.
There is no compassion or mercy while this magnificent creature slowly dies in its own blood
I hope, like me, you have had enough of this type of treatment of these glorious creatures.
What can you do?
For starters pass this around, and get the word out there.

Of course kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnes, etc don’t always die such horrid deaths except those mangled by cars and lorries, and the multitude of birds and insects who die slow deaths when they are deprived of their natural habitat by urban sprawl and evergrowing roadways. Destruction of farmlands, bushland, paddocks, and trees are killing many thousands of animals in Australia, Or the thousands of sea and river creatures killed daily by river and sea pollution by humans. But of course because that isn’t always directly by human hand and it isn’t seen then it is not cared about.
It is still however done in your name.!.
You must get a lovely warm & fuzzy feeling (and no doubt kudos from your relatives and friends) for making your protests about the whales, while at the same time sharing responsibility for the killing of thousands of Australia’s native animals, all in the name of population growth of the human species..
Rank hypocrisy and morally defective to protest about the whales – you are no better than the Japanese and in many ways you are worse.
Hi Jarl,
You are right, we should let the Dutch and Japanese torture these creatures, after all a truck that I somehow authorised (???) hit a kangaroo… what on earth was I thinking???
But if these trucks etc go forth in my name, then they also go fort in yours, so the hypocrisy in your comments is rather obvious.
At least I am trying to do something, rather than complaining about others doing it….. I sleep fine at night, my family don’t reda my posts, neither do my friends, as they hear it all the time, and the only thing that makes me feel warm and fuzzy is whiskey, so you have proven nothing other than your assumption about ne are wrong.
However, thanks for the feedback, I don’t mind criticism, even when it is uncontructive and personal
wixxy this is a very sad tale.
BTW “@ 11.58am” is only here to make personal attacks.
Well said wixxy, how easy it is to sit on one’s backside and whinge about the efforts of others.
Indeed Min
When I get that sort of comment, I take it as a compliment
Cheers Pip…, I sussed that out
wixxy it’s puzzling to me that anyone in their right mind would see these actions as character building
Yeah me too… it is quite an odd thing
I don’t see how it would build any character at all….
Wixxy – “we should let the Dutch and Japanese torture these creatures, “. You know very well that is not what I said – those are your words, not mine. The hypocrisy is in only making a fuss about the harm the Japanese are doing to animals, whilst ignoring the harm to animals which is occurring every day in Australia and largely caused by unrelenting urban growth. The Greens aren’t interested in protecting the Australian Wildlife and environment, only issues which will gain them cheap publicity.
Yes Wixxy, those trucks do go forth in my name and that is why I protest frequently and loudly about the wanton destruction of the Australian environment by urban sprawl and roads.
Pip – No. I only respond to personal attacks in like manner. Especially to snide asides and double entente’s. Now have you anything of value to add to the discussion about the destruction of animals either in the Pacific or in Australia by ourselves, or are you only interested in seeking to denigrate me..?.
It’s double ENTENDRE, and this thread is about the killing of dolphins, which in no way detracts from the issues you mentioned.
Bravo Pip. So you were paying attention when I made the deliberate mistake (I don’t have Blonde Moments) – Good for you – many will have missed it. So your contribution is `Lets stick to discussing dolphins’ and ignore the killing we are doing to Australian wildlife. Fine, then please tell us what great acts you intend to perform to save the dolphins, while having the deaths of kangaroos, Koalas, Wallabies, Echidnes etc etc on your hands.
I absolutely loathe the culling of kangaroos carried out here in Canberra on a regular basis. It’s not enough to see dozens of them lying dead on our roads.
I heard recently that an estimated 50 a week are killed on the roads here. Yet they still want to shoot them.
Jarl, you must have missed this…
this thread is about the killing of dolphins, which in no way detracts from the issues you mentioned.
“in Australia by ourselves, or are you only interested in seeking to denigrate me..?.”
Jarl why would we want to do this?
You say this every time someone disagrees with you.
What is so bad about one saying that animal cruelty is not on.
When one says that everyone is out to get me, one thinks of paranoia.
Jarl, it is not you that we are out to get. We are out to get no one.
It is just if we disagree with something, anyone says, we say so.
You do worry me a little, you appear to disagree with everything that is said on this site. Surely there must be at least one little thing you agree with.
Jarl, how would you know which great acts Pip has or indeed intends to perform. You might actually look kinda stupid making statements such as these. Law 101, never ask a question unless you know the answer.
Jarl, you also appear to have a drive to be argumentative for argument’s sake.
Please do not believe you are better than us and have the right to lecture us, you do not.
Are you saying, you see nothing wrong in what is happening with Dolphins.
If not, what are you on about?
Cu, Jarl is here specifically to disagree with us……it keeps him busy.
Cu – What I am trying to point out, in the simplest possible terms, is that the Au Government and its supporters such as yourself, are being hypocritical in condemning the Japanese for killing dolphins and whales, and yet at the same time presiding over the widescale destruction of Australia’s wildlife and its flora and fauna. Just as the Japanese feel justified in their actions, the Au govt feel justified in similar actions.i.e. urban sprawl. I don’t see any difference between what the Japanese government are doing and what our own government are doing – they are both wantonly destroying wildlife and other species without a morally justifiable cause.
No I am not saying that I “see nothing wrong in what is happening with Dolphins”. It is an abominable atrocity against another species. The Au government should put its own house in order as well as attacking others.
No I am far from being paranoid. I have no irrational fears whatsoever. Note Pip’s last statement – the first part is acceptable, but then she has to put personal invective as the sting in the tail. Frankly I’m hugely busy but feel that this is such an important issue that I am prepared to give my time to help people face some uncomfortable and inconvenient truths about what is being done in Australia to destroy and damage the environment. Obviously you don’t agree with my trying to draw attention to such an issue and would prefer that I am silenced, by group attacks in these columns or being threatened with expulsion if I respond in like manner to personal insults by some of its members.
Thats great Jarl, and I totally agree with you…
Maybe your point would have not been so lost if you had left out the “warm & fuzzy’ comments and turned it into something personal…. just maybe…
Is it just me?
Jarl, you come in with guns blazing criticizing the tenor of the post and after ‘rebuke’ you then attempt to make yourself look good by agreeing that the killing of dolphins for pleasure is ‘not a good look’. You’ve done this before on other topics.
No one’s suggesting that Australian practices are perfect.
I’ve never understood why people go ‘out of their way’ to kill animals. Particularly when one’s survival does not depend on it.
I just hope that the people involved in this ritual have some respect for the animals killed..Almost certainly their ancestors would have..
Can I add that the pictures that wixxie put up indicate ‘overkill’. This was not, I presume, killing to survive. I mean do these people actually do something with these animals?
Rabbit, I can find surprisingly little about this. The best that I can manage is this comment. I could not guarantee for the accuracy or otherwise of this as it’s just an opinion.

Jarl, in your comment @ 4.35pm, you objected to my comment about you which was a throwaway reply to your own rude assumptions about me.
Enough.
Thanks for that Min.
I know walking into an abattoir is not a pleasant experience (I’ve done that).
But, if in fac these whales/dolphins are near extinction, as reported, then there may be a need to take action. Otherwise people there won’t be able to follow their ‘tradition’.
I guess it’s the method of killing which would haunt most.
Rabbit, I used work in marketing for Marven Poultry (Lilydale chickens). Alan Marven believed that it was a great idea to conduct a personal guided tour of the chook killing factory so that all new employees, management included had a working knowledge of the business. I got about half way through the hour long tour when I had to make a run for the door..the smell was unbelievable.
Great job working in a chook factory, ripping out gizzards etc…
Min, is there anything you haven’t done?
Try anything once, rabbit. I might even try some things more than once.
Before I sign off min, thank you for the facebook comment on the ‘hearing’ post. Much appreciated. Now, what did you say?
Where did I do this. All I asked was if you agreed with animal cruelty.
I said nothing about any other country
Your argument for argument sake does not make sense.
All have said they do not agree with cruelty in this country,
Yes, I also have concern, great concern that the natural habitat is shrinking.
I am very pragmatic when I come to animals, I am not a great pet lover.
I do not believe dogs should be chained or birds kept in cages.
I believe we should shrink the cat numbers because of the harm they do to native animals.
I, also believe it is sometimes sensible to cull. It would make more sense not to allow the numbers to increase in the first place.
I have nothing against killing animals for food.
I do not believe that it is necessary to eat animals that are in danger of extinction.
I believe that all killing must be done as painlessly as possible.
Those pictures do not appear to meet that standard.
My biggest concern re the whales, is that so much is wasted, the way they are killed is cruel and some are facing extinction.
If this was not the case, I would have no concern.
Jarl be carefful when you label others.
”
It is my experience that those who are paranoid are the last to know.
Jarl makes such a big thing in continuing to tell us he has no irrational fears.
He is very quick to label others as irrational.
I wonder why.
My pleasure, rabbit.
Jarl no one is going to expel you for disagreeing.
I am a a lost as to what you are disagreeing with.
We have all said we do not like what is occurring in this country. It is a little different from what is happening on that Island off Holland
The personal insults that you get are in response to the ones you dish out.
What the post is about is whales and dolphin.
If you feel the need to put one up on your concerns, I am sure that Miglo will obligh you.
It could be a good post.
Sorry Miglo.
Not many things disturb me, but a photo on Facebook of an elephant with its face cut off (for the tusks) certainly did it. Humans are cruel.
Humans are greedy, anything for the almighty dollar.
That’s what it amounts to, Min.
How do humans become so cruel ? Why?
Elephants are extremely intelligent animals. I heard a great story on
RN, ‘Margaret Throsbie Interview’ this morning, about an elephant picking up dropped keys and replacing them in the owner’s pocket as they walked together.
Whoever inflicted such cruely on the poor animal in Miglo’s story has lost their humanity.

What has happened to Japan and the whales. Nothing at all in the media at this time.
Have the boats stopped coming, nothing about them too.
Cu, the monsoons have been very … monsoonal lately so no boats, I think…
Whales aren’t as important as the imminent Labor leadership challenge…
